Laotian-American filmmaker Mattie Do is one of the strong female voices in recent Southeast Asian cinema. Her third and new film The Long Walk has screened in various international film festivals including Toronto, Venice, Busan, and recently in the ongoing Philippines’ QCinema International Film Festival.
Ngilngig Asian Fantastic Film Festival Davao is proud to introduce Mattie’s work, and with it Lao cinema, to Davao and Mindanao, through her sophomore film, Dearest Sister (ນ້ອງຮັກ), a tale rooted in superstition and the supernatural.
A Lao village girl’s only chance of escaping indentured poverty is to manipulate her wealthy cousin’s illness into dependence.
