I did this with maypop fruits from my yard, and the result was a revelation. And doesn\u2019t a \u201cmaypop mocktail\u201d sound so Southern? <em>\u2014Elizabeth Florio, digital editor<\/em><br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve long been a fan of a <a href=\"https:\/\/gardenandgun.com\/recipe\/essential-southern-cocktail-dark-n-stormy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dark \u2019n Stormy<\/a>. Something about the spicy ginger beer, lime, and dark rum, preferably in a collins glass (with plenty of ice, of course), instantly conjures a summer day by the water to me. It did originate in Bermuda after all. <em>\u2014Dave Mezz, deputy editor<\/em><br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My family is from El Paso, and I learned early on that Texans know what to do when it\u2019s hot: Mix up some ranch water. Pour your favorite tequila over ice, squeeze in as much fresh lime juice as you want, and top it with Topo Chico. And if you want a little pineapple flair, <a href=\"https:\/\/gardenandgun.com\/recipe\/bright-and-tangy-tepache-ranch-water\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">add in some tepache<\/a>. <em>\u2014Lindsey Liles, digital reporter&nbsp;<\/em><br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m not sure what alchemy makes the combo of soda and ice cream so heavenly and nostalgic. <a href=\"https:\/\/gardenandgun.com\/recipe\/the-perfect-root-beer-float-starring-abita-soda-and-cardamom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Root beer<\/a> is the classic float choice, of course, but I\u2019ve been ordering Dr Pepper + vanilla ice cream at Charleston Riverdogs baseball games. Chick-Fil-A has a similar Icedream Float with Dr Pepper, too. <em>\u2014CJ Lotz Diego, senior editor<\/em><br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I got turned on to <a href=\"https:\/\/drinknavyhill.com\/products\/squeeze-of-lime-tequila-soda\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Navy Hill\u2019s Tequila Soda<\/a> in a can when the Virginia company entered last year\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.madeinthesouthawards.com\">Ma<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.madeinthesouthawards.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">d<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.madeinthesouthawards.com\">e in the South Awards<\/a>. While, sure, you can mix a tequila soda yourself, Navy Hill adds a squeeze of lime and offers a balance I can\u2019t quite replicate at home (though I\u2019ve tried). I like to pour one in a collins glass filled to the brim with ice, add a squeeze of orange, and stir. <em>\u2014Amanda Heckert, executive editor&nbsp;<\/em><br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My summer go-to is usually something bubbly and refreshing: Prosecco with a splash of St.-Germain elderflower liqueur (and a few fresh berries if I\u2019m feeling fancy) or a citrus-flavored vodka topped with club soda and a squirt of lemon juice. I add a glug of whatever simple syrup I have on hand in the fridge, but my favorite lately has been a spiced orange flavor.
